A WILLING HEART

“‘Take from among you an offering to the Lord. Whoever is of a willing heart, let him bring it as an offering to the Lord: gold, silver, and bronze;” – Exodus 5:5

God invited the Israelites to participate in the building of the tabernacle. In a similar manner, he invites his church to participate in His work today. How can we participate? Through our generous giving. As God’s children we are blessed to give to God the things that we have, and the things that we do.

But notice, God only wants our offerings if we are “willing” to give. As it says later in 2 Cor. 9:7, “God loves a cheerful giver.” God is gracious, allowing us to be a part of the work he is doing. Giving of our tithes and offerings is one way of getting involved.

Another way of getting involved in God’s work is giving yourself. God’s work requires more than just money and resources, it requires people. People like you and people like me, whom God has gifted with gifts and talents. What gift(s) has God given you? More importantly, are you using them and how? As Christians, we all need to be using our gifts and talents, serving one another. We should focus on serving the Lord by giving what he has given to us and by what gifts he has given to us.

Let us learn from the Israelites example. They responded obediently and with willing hearts. It says in v. 21 “Then everyone came whose heart was stirred, and everyone whose spirit was willing, and they brought the Lord’s offering for the work of the tabernacle of meeting, for all its service, and for the holy garments.”

And most of all, let us learn from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us and has given us every spiritual blessing in heaven.

In Christ,
